Strengthening communication and collaboration with various stakeholders through participation in global initiatives

POSCO aims for carbon neutrality by 2050 and is actively expressing its commitment to action externally, enhancing its execution capabilities, and demonstrating leadership in sustainable management practices through proactive and pioneering participation.

    UN Global Compact(UNGC),

    UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs)

    The UNGC outlines 10 principles that corporations must follow in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) by 2030. It is the world’s largest voluntary initiative promoting the sustainable management of corporations and organizations worldwide. Since joining as a member company in 2012, POSCO has been actively participating in and sponsoring various sustainability programs hosted by the UNGC.
  • CDP Evaluation

    The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an international non-profit organization established in 2000 in the UK, providing climate change response information from over 9,600 companies worldwide to investors and financial institutions. It evaluates data disclosure status, risk awareness and management understanding, and goal setting in three key areas: climate change, water resources, and forest resources. POSCO has participated in the CDP since 2003, continuously improving its sustainability performance in climate change response and water resource management. In 2023, POSCO achieved an ‘A-’ score in both the CDP Climate Change and CDP Water Security evaluations.
  • TCFD Climate Change Response

    The TCFD is a voluntary disclosure framework that allows companies to identify and report the financial impact of climate change. Key investors are demanding transparent disclosure of companies’ climate change response status, and major evaluation agencies, accounting standards, and reporting standards have started using TCFD’s sustainability standards as official criteria. With more than 4,000 major global companies participating, POSCO declared its support for TCFD in March 2020, becoming the first in the domestic manufacturing industry to do so. In December, POSCO published a separate Climate Action Report reflecting TCFD recommendations, leading the way in transparent climate information disclosure
  • SASB

    The Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) is a non-profit organization established in 2011 that provides industry-specific standards for companies to disclose financially material sustainability information to investors and stakeholders. Since 2020, POSCO has transparently disclosed the sustainability metrics required by SASB for the steel industry through its Sustainability Report
  • RMI

    The Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) is a global coalition that investigates responsible mineral sourcing and conducts monitoring and certification of producers. In April 2020, POSCO became the first in the domestic steel industry to join the RMI, continuing its efforts to strengthen ethical and responsible mineral procurement and supply chain management. Additionally, POSCO is actively participating with global companies that are members of the RMI to address social and environmental issues within the global supply chain
  • ResponsibleSteel™

    ResponsibleSteel is the first global sustainability standard and certification initiative in the steel industry, launched in 2017. Global steel companies, customers, suppliers, and civic organizations in the steel value chain are participating in it. The initiative operates certification programs and develops global ESG standards for the steel industry, including safety, labor, GHGs, and raw material procurement. In October 2022, Pohang Steelworks and Gwangyang Steelworks became the first steel plants in Asia to achieve ResponsibleSteel site certification. (valid until 11.Oct.2025)
  • TNFD

    The TNFD is a risk management and disclosure framework that enables companies to assess, manage, and report the impacts they may have on natural capital, such as environmental degradation and biodiversity loss. POSCO joined the TNFD in 2022 and has been appointed to participate in the disclosure task force steering committee organized by the Ministry of Environment.
  • GRI

    The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is an independent international standard that helps companies, governments, and other organizations understand and communicate their impacts on issues such as climate change, human rights, and corruption. POSCO prepares its Sustainability Report based on the GRI.
  • worldsteel

    The worldsteel is a prestigious global organization in the steel sector with over 150 member companies, including global steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutions. POSCO Group executives actively serve as subcommittee members in areas such as environment, economy, education, sustainability, raw materials, safety and health, and technology, exploring global trends and joint response strategies related to the steel industry. POSCO has been named a Sustainability Champion for three consecutive years up to 2024. Additionally, POSCO was recognized as the top company in the Excellence in Sustainability category of the Steelie Awards in 2020 and has received awards in the Excellence in Sustainability category in 2022 and 2023.
  • IFRS ISSB

    The IFRS Foundation Trustees established the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) in 2021 to meet investors’ information needs and create a global standard for sustainability disclosure. Each country uses ISSB disclosure standards as the minimum standards for sustainability information disclosure, with the option to add additional disclosure items according to national laws and regulations. The ISSB standards include S1 General Sustainability-related Financial Disclosures and S2 Climate-related Financial Disclosures, adhering to TCFD recommendations (Governance-Strategy-Risk Management-Metrics and Targets). The final version was announced in June 2023.
  • EFRAG

    The European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) is an organization that establishes the EU’s sustainability reporting standards, known as the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). The first set, finalized in July 2023, consists of 12 standards, including 2 cross-cutting standards (ESRS1, ESRS2) and 10 topical standards (5 for environment, 4 for social, and 1 for governance).
